I became sexually active when I went to college, and though I used birth control (the pill) regularly, I became pregnant at one point. At that time I was living in Champaign, Illinois, and the Planned Parenthood clinic in town was the one place where I felt supported about the very hard decision I had to make regarding this pregnancy. The confidentiality and professionalism of the staff were both extremely important in making me feel fully empowered to make a decision. In the end, the pregnancy became a miscarriage, but I knew from then on that I could rely on Planned Parenthood as an essential resource for my healthcare needs. Since then I have become the mother of two wonderful boys. Choice means safety and life.
